After nearly 70 years, the drug cartels’ monopoly over Moroccan cannabis is coming under threat. On May 26, Morocco’s parliament adopted a bill to legalize medical cannabis & industrial hemp in what is VERY good news for local farmers.

One of the most exciting aspects of a growing cannabis industry is the economic opportunity that it presents. It’s one of the easiest crops to grow in the world – it’s nickname is “weed” after all – and there is plentiful market demand ready to be supplied. And that market goes well beyond people just getting *high*. The products that can come from the industrial cultivation of hemp are almost too numerous to count, including clothing, rope, plastics, construction materials, and plenty more.

Morocco’s potential cannabis market value, from just this small measure of reform, will be more than $23 million by 2023. Plus, because they can sell on the open market, and aren’t forced to only sell their crops to the cartel, their profits will increase. If Morocco continues on this path, who knows the possibilities for rising standards of living!

Those economic & entrepreneurial opportunities represent a major opportunity that has too long been stifled. As governments ease back on the restrictions against this versatile and life-affirming plant, fewer people will have their freedoms lost & lives ruined over it, and more people will have the chance to take advantage of the financial benefits the industry makes available.
